'Check it out' Section
What is this section about?
This section is a place where will be exposed scanlations of shounen-ai manga, doujinshi (oneshots showing already existing characters), fanfictions and other awesome shounen-ai things I have found on the web.
WARNING
If you ever read shounen-ai/yaoi fanficts, doujinshi or manga, you propably know pretty well that it's not easy at all to find good fanficts/doujinshi that doesn't show explicit sex... I'm not a big fan of hardcore stuff and I really don't plan on providing you any of it if I can help it. Anyway, I just wanted to warn you and reassure you: EVERYTHING shown here will always be accurately rated. So if you don't want to burn your innocent eyes, don't read mature stuff. The rest will be riskfree, I promise!
Now, let's talk about legal rights. To be honest, I never cared about downloading scanlations of licenced manga, but you've got to know that it's illegal. If you're not okay about it, then don't download stuff that has already been translated in English. Anyway, I don't plan on showing you a lot of licenced stuff - most of the shounen-ai manga aren't enough canon to be officially translated in English. So most of the stuff here is safe. I just wanted to make that point clear!
Feel free to send the club awesome shounen-ai stuff you've found! If it passes my rating test, then I'll be more than happy to add it to the section - with the name of the person who kindly provided it to us, of course!
This section has been inspired from the
'Check it out' Section from another club I'm managing, ~
Iruka-Fanclub. Most of the stuff over there is shounen-ai and KakaIru. So if you like Iruka-sensei from the anime/manga Naruto or if you like the KakaIru pairing, there's great stuff over there waiting for you (Free advertisement! That was what we call opportunism, kids). I might show some of the stuff over there on this section too.

Summary: A gay man wakes up in the morning in his bed next to a naked stranger! But the worst part of it is that his
boyfriend finds out and breaks up with him. What the hell? What happened? Who was that man? What will our poor man discover...?
Manager's rant: I don't want to spill the punch line, but... this story is definitely worth reading! The plotline is wonderfully angsty, but the ending is very good and very sweet. And the athor still manages to make us laugh here and there!

Summary: Isaki and Kazuki, an unmotivated teenager, are working together at a bookstore. But Kazuki doesn't seem to like at all his job, especially since he's in charge of the children section. Then why does he still work there...?
Manager's rant: A very cute story, with a
lovely plotline. I can't say more without giving away part of the punch, but this story is definitely worth your time. I think the way both characters interact is quite natural and somewhat... smooth, if you see what I mean. The lineart is also great, although they are both a bit too feminine for my personal tastes

Kuushitsu Nashi
Summary: A sick teenager who ran away from home is helped by a passerby on a rainy night. He wakes up at the man's place who, he discovers soon, has issues with his past and isn't able to go on since his best friend's death three years ago. Then, he discovers that the silent man always following his caretaker is in fact... the ghost of his death friend, who needs his help to put some life back into his best friend and lover's life.
Manager's rant: A rather sad story. The ending is sweet, but somehow you can't help but feel sad for both of them anyway. But it's a very nice story, where people deeply care for each others.

Gun Mania

Manager's rant: First of all, I wanna say that this doujinshi's artwork is absolutely
AWESOME!!! No, seriously, I don't remember seeing such wonderful art in a doujinshi before! You'd be mad to miss those wonderful four males - who even appear once with only a towel covering them! It's totally incredible! And the funniest part of it is that it's a parody doujinshi! That's just amazing! Speaking of which, the three short stories are also very fun too, and very light. This doujin is the idea thing after a long day of work! And you don't even have to know Final Fantasy's characters to enjoy it, although it does help. Final Fantasy fans will totally love this parody! Don't be stupid enough to miss it!

Kyo Kara Mao
Summary: A teenage boy suddenly finds himself in another world after being swallowed by the toilet tub. In that middle-age universe, that teenager discover that he's the Demon King!
Manager's rant: Lovely art, fun story. I had already shown you a doujinshi from this anime/manga, if I remember well. That doujin got me curious and I found some scans of the manga to see what it was about. And I wasn't disappointed, although I wish I'd have more scans! This strory is very amusing, its characters are wonderful (and totally handsome too! Gotta love Gwendal!) and the artwaork is beautiful. I'm currently watching the anime, which is also not bad. If those scans interest you, you should download the anime and watch it too ^^

Another long awaited update, people! Sorry again it took me so long to update!

Yume no Kodomo
Summary: When his sister decides to leave for the United Steates, Youji is forced to live with her best friend, a sour man named Ren. Youji hates him with passion first, but as time passes and, he learns more about the troubled man and his hidden past and devlops feelings for him...
Manager's rant: Beautiful. And I'm not talking about the lineart - well it does get better as the story goes on - I'm talking about the plot. Somehow, the author manages to make us feel the characters' feelings and understand their issues. In this manga, there is nothing such as cute and perfect love: the characters have troubling issues and they are running and fleeing from each others in a somehow miserable but beautiful dance - beautiful because it is realist. Love is nothing easy, and this author proves it wonderfully - and still manage to put a touch of hope and idealism through it. If you want to have your theories about love confronted, this is the best shounen-ai manga I could refer to you. It sounds a bit sad, but it's thruly worth your time if you want to see something different from our usual bl comedy.

Summary: In a near futur, Japan is protected from terrorist attacks from a security computer highly pretected. To get rid of the computer, terrorists are trying to get rid of all the security intructor. In a few years, they've killed 7 and the only Instructor left is the 8th one, Instructor Ishikawa. To assure the last remaining Instructor's safety, a bodygard follows him around everyday. And that almighty bodygard happens to be madly in love with Ishikawa...
Manager's rant: That's such a cute story! Nothing's better than two strong and handsome homosexual grown-up men in denial (well in that case, Ishikawa's the only one in denial, but still). The story is really sweet if you like the whole I-will-save-you thing. Being the love-masochist I am, I especially enjoyed seeing their love evolve so slowly, since it's a rare thing to see now a day in bl manga. Plus, the artwork is great, although it doesn't not look like anything I've given you before. Check out the samples to understand what I mean.

The - long awaited, I hope- update on the check it out section! I took into consideration your advices and opinion - thanks a lot for answering my note in such a great number! The result of the quizz: most of you want to see more art, manga and doujinshi. Some of you also requested more webcomics and animations. I'll try to select the material I show you depending on your preferences, but I must warn you that I can only show you what I can find.

Seikimatsu Darling
Summary: Ogata confesses his love for a co-worker, Takasugi, and is surprised to hear that his beloved returns his feelings. However, Takasugi says that they cannot be together, because their love is too similar: they want the same thing from each others (being the seme, of course!) So they decide that they would try to make the other fall for them! This manga follows their mutual research of dominance and the evolution of their relationship and the love story of two other lovely gay couples they know.
Manager's rant: Do you remember when I told you Harlem beat wa Yoake Made was my favorite manga? Cross that out, Seikimatsu Darling beats it into pulp! PULP! No kidding, this is the best shounen-ai manga
EVER, period. First off, It's filled with mature, manly and HANDSOME men, and not just some frail bishounens or the typical uke/seme we know far too well! There is no classical weak and feminine-looking uke in this manga, and what a great change it is! Bishounen are good, but once in a while I need some air from all those clichés... Seeing real men like that loving each others and slowly trying to make their relationship evolve into something rare and beautiful (and not just sex) is a true joy, a pure candy! I think I've never seen a real shounen-ai (because you could hardly find anything more shounen-ai-ish than this) story with mature characters like that, much to my utter delight! And that's not all! This manga has a very good plot with an interesting and original love story that will get you addicted in a matter of pages. To my great pleasure, it actually focuses a lot on their feelings. An AWESOME plot, filled with sweet and cute scenes, awfully fun ones and also some very interesting serious parts. With a more subtile and cute sense of humor than what we're used to in those kind of manga, I might add. All the good stuff together! What really got me hooked was the absence of rush in the plot: the author is not rushing her characters at all in a physical relationship, which leaves her more space for shounen-ai, and such a thing is getting truly rare with all the yaoi popularity growing. And for all those reasons, this manga sets itself apart from all what can be found on the shounen-ai and yaoi market. And that's without talking about its lovely characters and superb artwork (well it gets better as chapters pass by)! Seriously, it's worth reading. You'd be missing something if you wouldn't. Boys on Boys on Film's review about the OVA (spoilers!!!) of this manga, wich is extremely representative of the author's manga. Their review is pretty accurate!
Of course, you've got to love the style. Watch out for the OVA, it's even better than the manga! You gotta watch the OVA at least!!!!

OVA: Seikimatsu Darling
Summary: If you haven't read the summary of the manga, then read it. Because this OVA is the animation of the first two chapters of Seikimatsu Darling, reproducing it extremely faithfully. On the whole, Ogata and Takasugi confess to each others and go on a date to a Hot Spring to win each other's heart.
Manager's rant: If you haven't read the manga, then at least watch the OVA. You gotta watch it! If THIS TOTALLY
AWESOME animation doesn't get you hooked hard to the stroy, then nothing will. I myself watched the OVA before I read the manga and it made me look frenetically for scanlations of the manga everywhere on the web. Lovely art and an awesome senario - nothing gets better than this, really. It's terribly sweet and truly AWFULLY fun! And you'll never find something like that either elsewhere - it has quite a style of its own - and what a wonderful style! The best bl animation I've ever watched and by far! Even

Webcomic: Gests in Purgatory
Summary: Yuki and Aki somehow find themselves linked together by fate in a very weird accident: when Aki sucided, he fell on Yuki and killed them both. Because of that starnge link, they are forced to live together in purgatory until the administration decide on what's going to happen to them and their unplanned death. So they have to learn to live together...
Manager's rant: Not the best bl webcomic I've read (that's Pandect!) but it sure is very interesting. It's a nice thing to read when you are too lazy to leave your computer late at night (personnal experience is talking *nods*). Her artwork is not the most astounishing one, but I think she's doing failry well for an amateur. Very well indeed. I wish I could do that good in fact!
Nice senario and lovely characters waiting to be discovered. The only thing I truly deplore is the rush in the plot at the begining of the story.
Rating: PG 16 for some rare scenes and randomly half-naked bishies.

Manager's rant: Another shounen-ai webcomic website for you guys. There are more than one story in this one so feel free to look around and read what you like. But beware: there is a yaoi section as well. It's well indicated though: you won't find yourself reading mature stuff unless you want to. I like a lot those projects because of their fabulous lineart. And of course, fantasy lovers will like the Ai no Demon story, which is about half-demons. Enjoy!
Rating: Form General to Mature, depending what you read.
Kiss Scandal
Summary: Congress man Colin Rudd has been having a serious relationship with his secretary for 3 years now, and people are starting to wonder why he isn't married to a fine woman yet. What would happen if media dicovered about his gay lover...?
Manager's rant: Beautiful art, interesting and touching story line plus a cute gay couple, what else can we ask for? This story is really beautiful - plus, it shows how politics truly works. I've always been interested in politic, even though it frustrate me more than anything else, so I was amused to see how this short manga is truly inspired by american politics and politician rules... With media and such... A really good one.
Rating: I'd say PG 16 because we can them *ahem* you see what I mean. Although it really doesn't ast long: only a page I think.

Much Ado About Nothing
Summary: [Amine/Manga: One Piece] Luffy and Zoro broke Nami's favorite cup! Of course, they say it's the other's fault, so they get angry at each other. They both decide to try to find another nice cup for Nami, since they broke hers.
Manager's rant: This doujinshi is reeally good! It's sweet and it truly respect One Piece charaters's personality and atmosphere. It's not all lovey-dowey, but it's for the best because it would feel word to have lovey-dowey love in One Piece. The story is cute and fun (especially for people who know about One Piece) and the lineart truly looks like One Piece manga's lineart. The resemblance is astounishing! Once Piece lovers HAVE to read this!

The section is coming back to life! Sorry it took me so much time to update it guys! Today I have very neat stuff for you, I hope you'll enjoy it! ^^
WebComic: Pandect
Summary: Simply put, this is the life of a bunch of aces... well I'll say animal who deserved the right to have a soul and can turn into humans, studying together in an human academy. It's hard to explain, you've got to read it by yourself to understand. This comic is rather long too and still ongoing.
Manager's rant: I'm totally in LOVE with this webcomic! Okay, I admit that the story is a bit hard to understand at the beginning, but when the whole context is explained, everything fits together. Fortunately for us (and even though it's quite irrealist), it seems as if there are only handsome boys in his story. And a lot of shounen-ai! A lot of it!
Plus, the lineart is quite impressive for an amateur - you've got to see this for yourself, definitely! The story really gets good toward the middle of the comic archive - don't stop reading it before the middle, it gets better there. The best part is of course when Noah appears and Edgar (the black prince's servant) gets more attention... This pairing is just so.... Ahhh! I love it! It's really too bad it appears only toward the end of the current story. But the comic is still going on, its creator updating with a new page every Monday I think. Isn't it great?

WebComic: Love Prohibited
Summary: Jake, a highschool student, falls for his young and hansome teacher, Mr. Flannery. When he sees his teacher in danger, he interfer and drags him home...
Manager's rant: Even though it's kinda short, this webcomic is worth your time, believe me. It's worth reading only for the totally AWESOME lineart, which will make you drool on front of your computer for sure! You've gotta see this artist works, even pros don't draw that well!
Usually I'm not into student/teacher relationship (I hate it, I think it's amoral) but this comic is a very special case. The subject is seen in a different way than in the traditional point of view of t/s relationship: characters are not too typically Uke or Seme, which is really interesting to see. The story line, even though it's still quite short, is interesting and fun. And, as you already know, the lineart is simply gorgeous. I highly suggest you to give it a look!

Donut letter
Summary: Miyazaki and his best friend just confessed to each other and are currently going out. But they find it weird and don't know exactly how to act because they always thought that their crush would be only onesided...
Manager's rant: Now that's one very cute oneshot! It's a small sweet story about love and people's conceptions of this great emotion. Incredicly cute and sweet, that's real candy I'm giving you guys! The lineart is not perfect, but it suits the story - it's cute! They blush all the time too! ^^

Yami no Matsuei
Summary: This story is about a fun pair of shinigami, whose job is to regulate the abnormalities of deaths. Since they both have a very different personality (Tsuzuki is a happy-going kind of guy while Hiruka is sour and cold) they sometimes have problems working together. But, as the story goes, they learn that they both share something: the trauma and the enormous weight of their conscience coming from their previous lives. Fun storie with a lot of magic in it.
Manager's rant: Now this is one classic shounen-ai manga. Actually, it's the manga that got me into shounen-ai in the first place. Yami no Matsuei's shounen-ai is very subtle and light, just like I love them. Characters' feelings are very important and we learn fast that there is more to some characters than they let on, which is fascinating because the author only suggest some characters' trauma and leaves us hungry for more information - and we're free to imagine whatever we want about the past of some characters. The mangaka loves to alternate between fun/cuteness and drama, which make the whole story even more interesting. In fact, I think the best thing about this manga is that it actually has a real and interesting plot (that is fortunately/unfortunately not based on a love story). And minor characters are particularly funny (who cannot love Watari godammit?!) Plus, the lineart is wonderful - not at the begining, but toward the 4th and the 5th book you'll totally drool in front of your computer.
Rating: PG 13 for one or two very short parts.

Unfortunately, this manga has been licencied already. It would be illegal if I would openly give you a link to download the 2 first books of Yami no Matsuei. I hope I could think of a way to let you read them nonetheless... *cough*sendmeyouremail*cough*. I know that there are 11 books in this series, but I have never been able to find anything scanlated beyond the 5th book. If any of you happen to have scanlated or raw chapters beyond the 5th book, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Thief and Detective
Summary: Detective Hugo has been trying to arrest the famous thief Martin for the longest time, but the mysterious man alwayd manage to escape. What is Martin's motivation? Hugo is far from doubting that it's HIM...
Manager's rant: This is just a random and cute shounen-ai story I ran across. The lineart is not the best I've seen, but the plot is sweet and I thought you'd like it.

Manatsu no Yoru no Ume
Summary: [anime/manga Hikaru no Go] Shindou invites Touya to stay overnight at some inn for the summer festival.
Manager's rant: I never read Hikaru no Go but I enjoy doujinshis of this manga. This one is particularly sweet and the lineart is beautiful - another candy to distract yourself with!

Ichiraku
Summary: [Anime/manga Naruto: KakaIru] Kakashi and Iruka meet at the Ramen bar and old memories come back...
Manager's rant: A 6 pages doujinshi. The story is really cute and funny (Young team Kakashi and young Iruka are just adorable!) and the lineart is wonderful! You've got to read it, even if it's just to see the 10 years old Iruka eating ramen! ^^

Dousaibou Seibutsu
Summary: Nakagama and Yokota have been in the same class for a while, but somehow they never noticed each other. But now that they became friends, they wonder where their strange friendship will lead them..
Manager's rant: This is one of the cutest shounen-ai story I've read so far. It's really sweet and cute to see those two shyly becoming more than just friends... And the story stops just at the appropriate time, before anything gets graphic. This story is really incredibly cute and, guess what? The lineart is awesome, and I mean it! This story is a MUST for true shounen-ai lovers. Enjoy! ^^

The White Wind and The Sun

Manager's rant: The summary sounds pervy, but this story really isn't perverted at all. It's just really hilarious, especially with Sakura's commenting on Gai and Kakashi's flirting techniques - and with our alway clueless favourite chuunin, of course! The artwork is truly awesome and the whole affair is also cute (cute and hilarious, who wants more?). A must!
Rating: Humm, I'd say General, even though there is one chuu (light kiss)

Harlem Beat Wa Yoake Made
Summary: When he is about to marry a women he doesn't like, the Prince of Hell runs away and hide on Earth to finally be able to be free to make friends and love.
Manager's rant: This is seriously my favourite shounen-ai manga!!!! Even though the shounen-ai factor is REALLY light - you almost have to imagine it... Well I prefer it that way, it leaves the reader imagine and hope for whatever it wants. Anyway.
The lineart is totally AWESOME, as it is expected from Takashima Kazusa. The plot is not as serious as it sounds. In fact, the whole story is cute and funny (it even gets ridiculus at some point) and characters are lovable. But this manga is worth reading, even if it's only to admire its beautiful images...

Summary: [Anime/Manga: Naruto] Kakashi is set to take care of Iruka after a mission gone bad. Iruka has difficulties dealing with his new status (both physically and mentally) and the fact the he has to rely on no other than Kakashi, a man that seems to hate him, is not helping...
Manager's rant: This is seriously the best KakaIru fanfict I've ever read - and I've read quite a few of them, thank you very much! This fanfict is long and angsty, but not too much. Just enough to be very realist. The author knows how to make us
feel Iruka's frustration, fear, confusion and Kakashi's helplessness, making them seem so
human and making the reader want to help them so much... Their feelings, intensified by the beautiful writing style of the author, and the rather good and very realist story-line of this fanfict are worth reading at least once. A must!
Rating: TEEN. There's a bit of yaoi in later chapters, but really nothing to burn your eyes. But I want to warn you that it might change: I know the author's style and I can tell there's gonna be mature stuff in the soon-to-be chapters. But fo now, this fanfict is worksafe.
Legacy of the Dragon
Summary: "Legacy of the Dragon is a sweet boy-love comedy between Tenran-sama (Demon Lord) and his subordinate, Asagi (Dragon) (...) Together, the 2 of them have adventures and gradually get together." I think that resumes it pretty well.
Manager's rant: Okay, this story is really very long and that's why I won't send it to you. You just have to download it on the website I linked in the title.
The lineart isn't so great, but the love story is funny and really cute! I really recommend it to people loving fantastic and magic stuff - and long lovey-doey love stories.
Rating: Teen, but it's almost general. There's nothing graphic in this manga at all. I hope that doesn't dissapoint you!

Jet Coaster Romance
Summary: [Anime: Prince of Tennis] Eiji is in love with Oishi, but he doesn't want to let his feelings change things between them too much... Nor does he want to get his love stolen away!
Manager's rant: I never watched this anime - and it's not because I'm not interested in it, it's just because I don't have enough time to watch all the animes that interest me! Anyway, I have a lot of cute Prince of Tennis doujinshi for you, so I hope you like this anime.
The lineart of this doujinshi is rather beautiful, and the whole story is sweet. Even if you don't know anything about the anime, you'll have no problem reading and understanding this doujin, believe me.
